The court may (or may not) deem alimony appropriate and will consider (among other items) the following before rendering judgment:

  • Grounds of the divorce
  • The length of the marriage
  • Debt distribution
  • The age of each party and ability to provide for themselves
  • Employment history and future earning potential
  • Property disbursement
  • Standards of living achieved during the marriage
  • Marital misconduct
  • Child custody
  • Special medical or mental health needs/disabilities
  • Prior support obligations from a previous marriage
